Potius Story

So far... so good

Potius Building Systems Ltd was incorporated in Sept 2007 to develop and market a new structural floor and/or roof system. The system uses long spans of LVL (laminated veneer lumber) to make structural panels. These panels are very strong and can span up to 12m – far exceeding the capabilities’ of conventional timber floor and roof systems. The panels are built in a factory and lifted directly into place on the building site saving cost onsite as the system can be installed rapidly.

The system is light, renewable, strong and very efficient.

We have installed in several buildings around the Top of the South Island and have just finished the system for the upcoming addition of another story to the Monro Building (next to the Nelson courthouse). Potius panels were chosen in this case for the speed of installation and their light weight.  We have several other projects in the pipeline, the most exciting of which is the new multi-story visual arts studio at NMIT. This is a multi-million dollar project which started construction in late '09 and is considered to be the national showcase of multi-story, commercial timber design of which we are an integral part. This project featured in the media recently and you can find out more at: http://www.nmit.ac.nz/schools/artsmedia

Potius BSL has two directors: Steve Hussey, who has an IT/Marketing background with his own successful website design business, Thadeus Creative Ltd. Previously he has managed Nelson’s PolyMEDIA Ltd and also worked there as Marketing Manager. With Andy O’Malley he established an IT Training business, Astec Training Services Ltd, which was later sold to West Yates Ltd.

Gavin Robertson is a structural engineer and is the other director in the business. He originally came up with the concept for the panels in 2006 and he and Steve prototyped them together for 18 months before launching the business in 2007.
